BOZEMAN, MONTANA

Wiley assisted a geoscience consulting firm with a hydrogeological investigation to gather groundwater data to determine groundwater flow direction and diurnal water table fluctuations. Six groundwater piezometers were installed as part of this project. This project was challenging because the geology generally consisted of gravels and cobbles in a sand and clay matrix, making it impossible to drill with traditional methods such as augers or rotary wash. Wiley used their Mincon Spiral Flush system to advance the boreholes. This system utilizes a pneumatic down hole hammer and a casing advancer to drill through materials such as gravels, cobbles and boulders commonly found in Montana and more specifically, the Bozeman area. This system allowed Wiley to advance the borings in a fraction of the time other drilling methods would take.
